Being a man often feels like a job of going through excruciating circumstances — It is something you have to earn every damn day by how hard you work and how good you look while doing it.

The constant social pressure to be providers, breadwinners, and romantic pursuers is exhausting.

We squash our feelings of vulnerability because we’re told to be tough.

We must pretend to have all the answers to not reveal weakness.

The unforgiving pressure to perform and prove ourselves seems like a rat race to nowhere.

It’s time to question the scripts that are limiting our health, happiness, and potential.

When was the last time you let yourself listen to that soft inner voice of guidance?

It’s telling you to take a risk and get more of what you want from manhood.

This is not about telling men to act more like women or women to act more like men; it’s about letting everyone be whoever they want.

You will only break free from the masculinity trap when you have a safe alternative.

Our society often assumes that men are immune to worrying about their body or don’t feel pressured to look a certain way. I know first-hand that this is far from the truth.

In fact, eating challenges, weight issues, and fitness flops are often not talked about. Men are not supposed to have issues taking care of themselves. 

The “mask of masculinity” tells us that self-care is too feminine. The legacy burden of patriarchy says we have to “suck it up” and put on a front that everything is going fine. We have to deal with our struggles alone and in silence. 

As a result, a lot of men have lost touch with this precious instrument and companion — their body — that is the gateway to true physical and mental wellness.

It’s time to reclaim your right to take care of yourself. It’s time to stop white-knuckling your way through every aspect of your life and develop a real relationship with your feelings. 

This means unlearning old, unhelpful patterns. It means shedding the coping strategies that helped you get here but don’t help you get to where you want to go.

A HERO’S JOURNEY TOWARD INTEGRATION

I learned early on that we need to respect our body and let it be the guide to help us live a life of alignment and integrity. Yet the path to get there was not easy. The road was windy, confusing, and frustrating as hell. 

The challenge of becoming a healthier, better man is no simple task.

It’s a hero’s journey.

It starts going out into the world to test your strength and fortitude. All men need adventure, freedom, and a chance to prove to themselves that they have what it takes to survive on their own. 

However, at a certain point, your masculine drive to strive and create needs to be tempered with a journey inward, or else you can self-destruct. 

This is the next turn of the wellness journey, the turn into your neglected physical and emotional qualities. Unfortunately, this is where most men get lost because the current paradigm doesn’t prove a lot of support to journey inward. 

Classically, men’s health was all about preserving muscles, erections, and hair. It’s time for something more. 

A modern, updated men’s health goes further. It’s about helping you become the man you very well know exists but haven’t yet met. 

This man is strong, powerful, and kind. He’s ambitious and nurturing. He fully embraces the softer, emotional, and receptive qualities of his body without losing his confidence and drive.
